Preparing to transfer between two internal drives
How To Copy Movies From Usb To Ps4formatted and tagged as Extended Storage on the old PS4. Transferring the external drive couldnât be easier, transferring the data between the internal drives takes a bit more work. Hereâs how to do both.
The PS4 will walk you through the transfer process but there are several things itâs useful to know before you start.

The transfer includes game and save files, synced trophies, folders, screenshots and videos, user profile data, and messages. Passwords for apps will not transfer.
Before you begin the transfer, pay attention to whatâs going on outside. Donât do what I did and sit biting your nails through the transfer hoping a power loss doesnât happen because a severe thunderstorm is trashing the area where you live. After youâve checked the weather report, do the following.
How long the transfer takes will depend on your router connection and speed and how much data youâre copying. I moved about 168 GB in about 45 minutes between a PS4 and a PS4 Pro.

Remember back in 2013 when the PS4 and Xbox One were introduced and Sony destroyed Microsoft at their E3 press extravaganza? One of the highlights was Sonyâs video response to Microsoftâs ridiculous, convoluted and greedy approach to sharing games. Sony took the same approach to transferring an external drive from one PS4 to another. Hereâs how to do it.
Thatâs it. All of your old data is now accessible on your new console. Keep in mind that the data was copied from the old PS4, not erased. If you plan to get rid of the old machine, itâs a good idea to erase the drive first.

The PlayStation 4 is a remarkable piece of hardware, but like all game consoles, itâs not immune to the occasional hiccup. Since its original launch in 2013, Sony has worked to resolve many PS4 problems various firmware updates.
In 2016, Sony released two new iterations of its premier console â a slimmer model with the same name and the 4K-compatible PlayStation 4 Pro â both of which provide improved performance over their predecessor and address some of the consoleâs lingering hardware issues.
Still, you may find yourself with a misbehaving unit, and thatâs a real bummer if youâre hoping to squeeze some gaming into your busy schedule. Our guide covers common problems with the PS4 family of systems and offers possible solutions to get you back in the game as soon as possible.
Get in touch with Sony
First, hereâs all the information youâll need to get in contact with Sony if your particular issue is not resolved from our guide.
You can also search Sonyâs error message library and follow the troubleshooting suggestions for the error that you encountered.
Malfunction: Blinking blue indicator light
Three years down the line, the âBlue Line of Deathâ remains the most-crippling of all problems yet to surface on the PS4. Taking a cue from the Xbox 360âs âRed Ring of Death,â the pulsing blue line indicates a technical problem could mean your console is no longer functional. Unlike the red ring, the âBlue Line of Deathâ doesnât automatically mean your PS4 is dead, but it does the same job as the ring; letting you know that thereâs a really big problem.
When booting up the PS4, the LED indicator light adorning the side of the console should quickly pulse blue prior to turning white. On consoles suffering from the âBlue Line of Death,â however, the blue light pulses continuously, indicating failed video output before inexplicably powering off. In this case, the console never sends a signal to the TV, essentially bricking the device and preventing normal operation. Sony believed the problem was an isolated incident, but also released a troubleshooting guide highlighting a slew of potential fixes. While the problem was more widespread at launch, it still crops up for a small portion of users and is more likely to be an issue if your console was manufactured between late-2013 and early-2014.
Potential solutions:
As Sony outlined in the aforementioned troubleshooting guide, the blinking blue light could be indicative of a number of hardware or software issues. That said, there are a number of potential solutions you can try. If you do manage to isolate an issue with the PS4 hardware, contact PlayStation customer support, or take your console directly to an official Sony retail store, as they can sometimes provide on-site repairs or replacements. If there isnât a store available in your area, youâll likely need to ship your console to Sony. At this point, your console may not be under manufacturer warranty: If thatâs the case, keep in mind that you may have to pay a repair fee.
Malfunction: Blinking red indicator light
Reports of the âRed Line of Deathâ arenât as widespread as the aforementioned blinking blue light, but it is almost as serious. On consoles suffering from the âRed Line of Death,â the LED indicator light adorning the side of the console will flash red repeatedly, subsequently powering off after the system emits three distinct beeps. The issue is tied to overheating problems as outlined in the PS4 user guide and confirmed by Sony, possibly a result of fan malfunction. Some users have reported the issue within minutes of powering up the console for the first time, however. Thankfully, itâs not the sign of a completely bricked unity.
Potential solutions:
If the problem persists and is not alleviated by either of the potential solutions below, contact PlayStation customer support or take your console directly to an official Sony retail store to arrange a repair/replacement.
Problem: Damaged HDMI port and faulty HDMI cables
It may not be PS4-specific or widespread, but some users have reported issues stemming from a damaged HDMI port shipping on their PS4 units. The problem, which leads to a lack of audio or video output on the TV, is often caused by a connection obtrusion resulting from a bent piece of metal within the consoleâs built-in HDMI port. Although the reasoning for the bent component is unknown, it effectively renders the port incompatible since the bent piece can no longer properly connect with the HDMI cord. Additionally, there have been reports of faulty HDMI cables that simply donât work for one reason or another.
While this issue was resolved in subsequent PS4 shipments after the consoleâs launch, if you purchase a pre-owned unit or youâre experiencing HDMI issues, youâll still want to look for possible answers below.
Potential solutions:
If neither of the potential solutions below solves the problem, try contacting Sony. Although not confirmed, Sony will likely send you a free replacement cable in a matter of days once the problem has been confirmed.
Problem: Damaged DualShock 4 analog sticks
We like a lot of things about the DualShock 4 controller, but the soft rubber padding on its analog sticks can tear quite easily when playing a game that requires quick movements, like Bloodborne. But just because the rubber tears doesnât mean you have to ditch the controller!
Potential solution
Analog stick covers, such as GelTabz â available in stores like GameStop and on Amazon â pop right over your analog stick, providing an even more comfortable gaming experience while also protecting the stick itself. They are slightly textured, so your fingers donât slip despite their flat design, and four are included in every package. PlayStation-formatted GelTabz works with both DualShock 3 and DualShock 4 controllers.
Problem: Running out of storage space
The newest PlayStation 4 systems, including the âslimâ model and the more powerful PlayStation 4 Pro, both have increased internal storage of up to 1TB. This is plenty of space for several AAA games, so you can easily jump between a few of your favorites without having to delete anything. For those with a 500GB internal drive, however, you will find yourself running out of space with regularity, particularly as game updates make your file sizes even larger than they were at launch.
Potential solution
'Cannot start the PS4. Cannot access system storage. Press the power button for 1 second (until the system beeps) to turn off the PS4. (CE-34335-8)'.
While playing PS4, especially in some cases users had removed the hard drive once or twice, PS4 would send a CE-34335-8 error. So, what does the error code imply? If you were caught up in the trouble with PS4 cannot start and cannot access system storage with error code CE-34335-8, do not worry too much, this post will analyze the causes and give a solution to the problem.
Causes for PS4 Cannot Access System Storage
This error code CE-34335-8 is telling you that PS4 cannot detect the hard drive, and you need to know the exact causes by doing some examination.
Take the Right Steps to Fix PS4 Cannot Access System Storage
As suggested, you can start to press the power button for a second to turn off the PS4 device and try to turn it on to see if the error continues. Many people say that they tried every option in Safe Mode but failed. At this time, accept the truth that something went wrong with the PS4 hard drive. Simply take out the hard drive and reconnect it to another PC, and follow the given procedure to rectify the problem.
Step 1. Recover data from broken PS4 hard drive
In fact, many players didn't use the hard drive in a correct way. They repeatedly install, connect and then remove the hard drive without thinking, and use one hard drive across various platforms, which causes hard drive corruption. It's a serious problem when PS4 cannot access system storage, the hard drive data can no longer be normally accessed, either.
To recover data from hard drive that is corrupted and inaccessible, download EaseUS free data recovery software and let it help. It's the best way to access hard drive without formatting.
1) Connect the PS4 hard drive to a PC where EaseUS Data Wizard is installed.
2) Launch the program. Select the PS4 hard drive and click Scan. 3) Run a quick scan and deep scan to find all existing and lost files. 4) Select files you want to access and open, and click Recover. Step 2. Repair PS4 hard drive corruption
Now, all data has been successfully exported and preserved in a safe spot, it's worry-free and risk-free to use chkdsk to fix the corruption problem at once.
Open Command Prompt, type chkdsk X: /f /r and hit Enter.
X should be replaced by your own drive letter. The command will fix bad sectors if it found any on the hard drive.
Step 3. Replace PS4 hard drive with a new one
What if the attempt to repair hard drive bad sector failed? You have to prepare for the worst that the PS4 hard drive has been severely damaged. Instead of spending a great sum of money to hire a professional to fix the hardware problem, consider buying a new one and replace broken hard drive by yourself. This would definitely get rid of the PS4 cannot access system storage problem.
Like the Roku and Chromecast, Sonyâs PlayStation 4 can play video and music files from a USB drive or another computer on your network. Your PS4 can even play local music files in the background while you play a game.
This is thanks to the âMedia Playerâ app, which Sony added more than a year and a half after the PS4 was released. Thereâs also a now-free-to-use Plex app for streaming videos from another one of your PCs.
Supported File Types and Codecs
Hereâs a list of different video and audio codecs the PlayStationâs Media Player understands, straight from Sony. If you want to play a media file on your PlayStation, it must be in these file formats. If it isnât, youâll need to transcode it to a supported one before it will function on your PlayStation.
Music files can be in MP3 or AAC (M4A) formats. Photos can be in JPEG, BMP, or PNG formats. Video files must be in one of the following formats:
MKV
AVI
MP4
MPEG-2 TS
These are some of the most common video file types, so you may not need to worry about it at all.
Use the Correct File System on Your USB Drive
RELATED:Whatâs the Difference Between FAT32, exFAT, and NTFS?
So you have the right filesânow itâs time to get them to your PlayStation. To get started, plug a USB drive into your computer. The drive must be formatted with either the exFAT or FAT32 file system, as the PlayStation 4 canât read NTFS. If your drive is formatted with the NTFS file system, youâll see an error after you connect it to the PlayStation 4. It just wonât appear or be usable.
To double-check, right-click the drive in Windows and select âFormat.â Format it to use the exFAT file system if itâs currently using NTFS. This will erase all files currently on the drive, so back up any files you care about before doing this.
You Must Place Your Media Files in Folders
Sony doesnât mention this anywhere, so we bumped into this problem ourselves. If you just have a video file and dump it into the ârootâ folder of your USB drive, the PlayStation 4 wonât see it. Your files must be located inside a folder on the drive or your PS4 wonât be able to use them.
Audio files must be located in a folder called âMusicâ on the drive for the PS4 to detect them correctly. Video files can be in any folder, but they need to be in a folder and not on the root of the drive. You could put them in a folder named âVideosâ, or create separate folders for different types of videos. LIkewise, photos must also be stored in folders if you want to view them, but any folder name will do.
Use the PS4 Media Player
Once youâre done, you can âsafely removeâ the USB drive from your computer and plug it into one of the USB ports on your PS4 â there are a few located on the front that are usually used for charging your controllers. Launch the PS4 Media Player app and your USB drive will appear as an option.
Youâll see the PS4âs âMedia Playerâ app icon in the PS4âs âcontent areaâ â that strip of icons on the main screen. Select it with your controller and launch it. If you havenât installed the media player app yet, the icon will still appear here, but itâll take you to the PlayStation Store where you can download the app for free first.
Select your USB drive, browse to the music or videos you want to play, and use the buttons on the controller to control playback.
While playing a video, you can press the L2 and R2 shoulder buttons to rewind and fast forward. Press the âOptionsâ button to open a playback control panel, and press the triangle button to view information about the file.
When playing music, you can hold down the PlayStation button while in a game to access the quick media player controls, allowing you to quickly skip songs and pause playback.
Alternatively: Use a DLNA or Plex Server
If you donât want to connect USB drives directly to your PS4 and ferry media files back and forth that way, you can stream videos and music from a DLNA server to your PlayStation 4. The PS4 Media Player app will detect compatible DLNA servers on your home network and offer them as options right alongside any connected USB devices when you open it
Use our guide to setting up a DLNA media server if you want to go this route. However, if youâre looking at streaming over the network, Plex is a more full-featured solution you might want to look at. Plex recently became free-to-use without a âPlex Passâ subscription on the PlayStation 4.

It even offers you the whole disk power recovery, which includes the operating system, programs, settings, and other data.
The PlayStation 4 also offers apps for streaming from Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, Amazon, and other services, but sometimes you just need to play back some local media files. It took Sony over a year and a half to add this option, but itâs here now, so enjoy taking advantage of it.
